Castles, canals & canyoning

The Ceiriog Valley has some brilliant rambling routes and there are endless mountain bike trails to discover. From the head of the valley you can access the magnificent Berwyn Mountain Range.
Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our local town Llangollen has plenty of independent shops, great pubs and cafes to enjoy as well as activities galore. Enjoy a hike up Castell Dinas Bran for a panoramic view of the Vale of Llangollen. Or explore the Eglwyseg Escarpment amongst the Limestone hills with spectacular views of the Vale and the Llantysilio Mountians beyond.
The River Dee that runs through Llangollen is a favourite spot for white-water adventurers with lots of activities available. From rafting to canyoning to canoeing to climbing and more.
For a more leisurely ramble take a stroll along the Llangollen Canal. The towpath starts at the wonderful Horseshoe Falls in Llangollen and runs to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – the longest and highest Aqueduct in Britain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Head to nearby Chirk where there’s a castle and over 480 acres of parkland to discover. See wild ponies, sheep, veteran trees and a beautifully preserved section of Offa’s Dyke. At Chirk Aqueduct you can stand with one foot in Wales and one foot in England. This magnificent structure is on the border and takes the Llangollen canal across the River Ceiriog at the base of the Ceiriog Valley.
Another fabulous local landmark is Pistyll Rhaeadr in Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant. The highest single-drop waterfall in Britain is known as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. It’s about a 30 minute drive away.
